Healthy Lifestyle Foods You Should Include In Your Diet

Everyone knows that if you want to start eating healthy, there are certain foods you should avoid or at least limit your intake of, and others you need to make a staple in your diet. In theory, it is easy to do, but sometimes it can be a bit of a challenge especially at the beginning.


Achieving a hеаlthу lifеѕtуlе and making some healthy food choices iѕ not easy as it takes some discipline and dedication to succeed, but it is quite ѕimрlе. It dоеѕ not require doing anything crazy or out of the ordinary. Consistency is the key here. It takes some time to develop the habit of eating healthy so you will need to find a way to persevere and resist the temptation of eating the unhealthy foods that you crave.


While eating the right healthy food is one thing, eating them in the right amount is another. Eating the right amount of healthy food has a lot of benefits including help keeping your weight under control.


On the other hand, unhealthy eating can do a lot of damage in one’s body ranging from cancer to diabetes (truly scary).  When you come to think about it, there is no downside to eating healthy.


You are probably wondering by now, what kind of foods I should include in my diet to help me achieve my healthy lifestyle goals? Well, here are some healthy foods that you should aim to include in your diet plan if you want to improve your health:




1. Fruits & Vegetables:


Remember when you were younger, and your parents would tell you to eat your vegetables. Well, if you didn’t listen to them then, you should have. Eating a wide variety of fruits and vegetables helps in reducing your cholesterol, your blood pressure and your rate of being obese. A diet high in fruit and vegetables can help protect you against diabetes, stroke, heart disease and cancer.


Vegetables are not created equal (the same applies to fruits). Some vegetables are healthier than others, but no matter what you choose, you can’t go wrong here. There are so many healthy choices out there. Spinach, kale, brussels sprouts, broccoli, carrot, garlic and green peas are some of the healthiest vegetables you can find. 




2. Protein:


Protein plays a very important role when it comes to eating healthy. It does a great deal in building bones, muscles, cartilage, skin and blood. It also plays a big role in helping you lose weight. You might have heard of protein shakes; this is basically what bodybuilders fill their body with to help them build muscle and lose fat.


Keep in mind that unlike fat and carbs, protein does not get stored in the body. Being a macronutrient the body needs a lot of, protein must be consumed regularly in order for your body to replenish its reservoir.  Some good sources of protein include meat, chicken, fish, eggs, beans, dairy products, soy foods, nuts, and seeds.




3. Whole Grains:


Food such as pasta, tortillas, bread and cereal are a powerhouse filled with energy which the body needs.


When going for grains to add to your healthy diet, it is advisable to go for whole grains such as brown rice, whole wheat, whole oats and quinoa as these are the healthiest options and avoid unhealthy ones such as white bread and white rice which are basically empty calories.


Since whole grains are naturally high in fiber, one tend to get filled up easily after consuming them.

4. Dairy Products:


There is a saying out there which states “A glass of milk a day keeps the doctor away.” As you may already know, there is the full fat and the low fat type of dairy and you probably already know the one we are going for here.


It is recommended to go for the low fat option over the full fat one. The reason why low fat dairy is considered to be the better option is because you get all of the nutrients (such as calcium, vitamin D and potassium) without the extra calories. With that in mind, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a glass of whole milk sometimes if you like to do so.


The benefit of adding dairy to your diet include, improved bone health which reduces the risk of one getting Osteoporosis, reduced chance of getting cardiovascular disease, lower risk of getting type 2 diabetes and lower blood pressure.




5. Healthy Fats:


Eating healthy doesn’t always mean you have to skip on fat entirely and no, we aren’t talking about fat from fried food. In case you did not know, trans fat (the kind you find in fried foods) are really bad for you.


We are talking here about the healthy type of fat which is present in foods such as fatty fish. These are extremely essential when trying to achieve a fresh skin, a boosted immune system and to burn fat.


It might sound weird, but yes, you need to eat some healthy fats in order to lose some body fat. So, don’t listen to anybody who tells you that fats have no place in a healthy diet. Some good sources of healthy fats include fatty fish, whole eggs, olive oil, avocados, coconuts, chia seeds, flax seeds, and nuts.




6. Water:


For a while, you might have seen a lot of people carrying a water bottle with them everywhere they go. The thing is, most people have now realized the importance of water in the body system and why they need to hydrate all the time.


Consuming a massive amount of water daily is probably the first thing you should consider when heading towards the healthy lifestyle. We are talking about at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day.


Drinking a lot of water helps the body to maintain the balance of its fluids, it helps you control your calories which is why people trying to lose weight use this as their major strategy. It also helps in energizing the muscles which in turn helps prevent muscle fatigue.


Drinking enough water daily can help you make your skin look really good. It is advisable that when you are thirsty, instead of taking a soft drink or alcohol, take a glass of water instead. That way your body gets exactly what it was asking for without any other additional chemical that might damage your organs or lead to extra added calories.
